Worship matters when done with ihsan

“You do it with excellence; you do it in the best way that you can.”

The khateeb, at 25:19

In one sentence

Worship should be approached with ihsan, full inward and outward presence and excellence, so wudu, Jumu'ah, salah, and Quran become meaningful investments in the akhirah rather than checkbox obligations.

The khutbah in 7 steps

  1. Taqwa requires evaluating the deeds one is sending ahead for the Hereafter.
  2. The command to protect orphans’ wealth illustrates fulfilling rights fully rather than substituting something inferior.
  3. Worship is a blessing and opportunity for closeness to Allah, not merely a completed obligation.
  4. Careful wudu and focused two-rak'ah prayer demonstrate how small acts can bring forgiveness and reward.
  5. Jumu'ah requires inward haste toward remembrance and an intention to gain and apply a lesson.
  6. Khushu' in salah affects reward, distinguishing attentive believers from distracted or lazy worshippers.
  7. Quran listening and every action should be performed with an attentive heart and excellence.
Try this week
Perform wudu carefully, without rushing or missing areas, and follow it with two focused rak'ahs when possible.
Attend Jumu'ah intending to gain a lesson, then apply one takeaway in daily life.
During salah, remember that Allah sees you, minimize distractions, and work toward khushu'.
Listen attentively when Quran is recited and let its reminders affect your heart.
Bring ihsan, doing each act as well as possible, to worship and daily actions.

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us to think about both the deeds we do and the care we put into them. Worship is a blessing and an opportunity to draw closer to Allah, so we should bring our hearts along with our bodies. Even wudu has its own rewards and deserves our attention. When we pray, attend Jumu'ah, or listen to the Qur'an, we can try to be present and let what we hear shape our actions. Allah asks us to do what we are able, and we can begin by choosing one small way to give our worship more care this week.

  1. What could help you slow down and pay attention when making wudu?
  2. What helps you remember Allah when your mind wanders during prayer?
