For the dinner table

The khateeb reminded us that difficult news can leave us tired, and that we need both awareness of others' suffering and a strong connection with Allah. He encouraged us to keep praying, showing up for our community, and holding on to hope. He asked us to stand up for justice without blaming whole communities, and to care about oppressed people even when we disagree with their leaders or beliefs. He explained that unity takes effort and sincere hearts, and that Allah is the one who brings hearts together. He also reminded us that Islam touches every part of life, helping us become better neighbors, family members, and human beings.

  1. What helps you stay caring and hopeful when you hear upsetting news?
  2. How could you help someone feel included when they seem different from you?
  3. What is one way our faith could help us be better neighbors this week?
