Honor mothers and choose spouses wisely
“Take the etiquette, the adab, before you take the knowledge.”
Mothers are central to raising righteous children and building faithful, peaceful communities, so families must honor them and choose spouses for consistent deen and character.

In the khateeb's words
“Take the etiquette, the adab, before you take the knowledge.”
“we don't have to blame, we can correct.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah focused on the important role mothers play in raising children and building communities. The khateeb shared stories about Maryam’s mother and the mothers of scholars to show how their care, promises, and encouragement shaped their children’s lives. He highlighted the advice Imam Malik’s mother gave him: learn good manners before taking knowledge. He also reminded us that faith should show in consistent actions, including honesty, and that both women and men should look for good character in a spouse. As a family, we can appreciate mothers’ efforts, support them in practical ways, and ask Allah to help our homes grow in goodness.
- What would good manners look like when you disagree with someone this week?
- What is something your mother or a caregiver does for you that you would like to thank them for?
- What small good habit could we practice together as a family?
