The ummah must return to Islam
“We are a people whom Allah has honored with the religion of Islam and whenever we look for honor somewhere else Allah humiliates us.”
The ummah's lack of victory comes from distancing itself from Islam, so believers must begin with personal repentance, worship, and community responsibility rather than blaming external powers.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens with Allah's promise of victory and contrasts it with the ummah's present humiliation and suffering.
- Attributes collective weakness to sins and seeking honor outside Islam, citing Umar and a hadith about returning to religion.
- Turns responsibility inward, arguing that the ummah is made up of each individual believer.
- Examines tawhid, prayer, fasting, zakat, and Hajj as measures of religious commitment.
- Urges repentance, adherence to the Sunnah, self-improvement, community service, and focusing on controllable actions.
- Announces an organization doing da'wah and humanitarian work and invites listeners to learn about and support it after salah.
In the khateeb's words
“we are a people whom Allah has honored with the religion of Islam and whenever we look for honor somewhere else Allah humiliates us”
“because this ummah is us it's not something that we don't belong to and it is affected by the actions of each one of us”
“Don't worry about things you can't control. Concentrate on what you can do.”
“Whenever you make a mistake, whenever you sin, you repent and go back and keep going and win that battle against the shaitan.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah says that the Muslim community's strength begins with sincerely returning to Allah, not blaming rulers or world powers. It asks us to examine our tawhid, prayer, fasting, zakat, and Hajj and to fulfill these obligations with care. The speaker encourages repentance after mistakes, following the Prophet's Sunnah, and doing the most good we can in our homes and communities. He also mentions an organization serving people through da'wah and practical help, inviting listeners to learn more and support its work after prayer. The message is meant to give responsibility and hope: personal reform and collective good can be part of seeking Allah's promised victory.
- When the speaker says the ummah begins with each of us, what good action can our family take together?
- What does focusing on what we can control look like when the world feels overwhelming?
