Every moment can lead to Allah's pleasure
“We are created to worship Allah, to lovingly surrender to Him, to submit to His will, to seek His pleasure at all times.”
Muslims should recognize that every moment offers a path to Allah's pleasure and actively seize those opportunities, especially Ramadan, serving parents, and sending blessings upon the Prophet.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Establishes worship as humanity's purpose and taqwa as conscious submission.
- Presents three missed opportunities: Ramadan, serving parents, and sending salawat.
- Urges preparation for Ramadan and service to living or deceased parents.
- Explains gratitude for the Prophet through regular salawat and its rewards.
- Broadens the message to everyday opportunities for khair and closes with supplication for the ummah.
In the khateeb's words
“We are created to worship Allah, to lovingly surrender to Him, to submit to His will, to seek His pleasure at all times.”
“My brothers, my sisters, when you hear his name, send salawat lovingly, with appreciation. Make it a point in your daily life to send salawat on the Prophet.”
“Look carefully for these opportunities. Move quickly when they come. And know that in any moment you could find the pleasure of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Allah created us to worship Him and gave us guidance so we can live with purpose. Being mindful of Allah belongs in every part of our day, alongside a balanced life. He highlighted three precious opportunities to draw closer to Allah: making the most of Ramadan, lovingly serving our parents, and sending peace and blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad. He also reminded us that being a good son or daughter continues after our parents pass away, through our good deeds and prayers. Every day brings chances to show kindness and seek Allah’s pleasure, so we can look for something good to do today.
- What is one chance to be kind that you noticed at school or at home today?
- What could we do this week to bring a smile to a parent’s or grandparent’s face?
- Who would you like to make dua for tonight, and why?
