Learn Allah’s names and guard Fajr
“We are supposed to put the Bismillah before everything.”
Muslims should deepen worship through remembrance of Allah, learning His beautiful names, trusting Him, and guarding Tahajjud and Fajr prayer.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens with standard khutbah praise and Quranic calls to taqwa, truthful speech, and obedience.
- Explains that ordinary actions can become ibadah when begun with Bismillah and remembrance of Allah.
- Introduces Allah’s beautiful names and groups examples around beauty, majesty, power, perfection, and wisdom.
- Shows how invoking names such as Al-Hakim, Al-Malik, Al-Alim, and Al-Razzaq can guide difficult situations and strengthen trust.
- Urges listeners to seize the mercy of Tahajjud, the two rakahs before Fajr, and Fajr prayer itself.
- Closes by urging dhikr, mutual encouragement toward Fajr, mosque support, and gratitude for Allah’s mercy.
In the khateeb's words
“So in other words, we are supposed to put the Bismillah before everything.”
“But how would you know that they abuse the names of Allah if you don't know His attributes? If you don't know His names?”
“He is our truster, He is the one that we put our trust in, then how can the believer have doubt in anything that he or she does?”
“My point is, dear beloved Muslims, when Allah gives us a rahmah, when He gives us a mercy, take the mercy.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that worship is not limited to formal prayer; ordinary actions can become ibadah when we begin with Bismillah and remember Allah. Learning Allah’s beautiful names helps us call on Him with understanding, for wisdom, strength, provision, and mercy. The speaker especially urged us to value Tahajjud, the two rakahs before Fajr, and Fajr itself as gifts we should not neglect. We can build trust in Allah without becoming careless, and let that trust shape our speech, relationships, and choices. We should protect our faith through dhikr, encourage one another to pray, and support the masjid.
- Which name of Allah from the khutbah would you like to remember this week, and why?
- What could our family do to make waking for Fajr easier?
- How can we put Bismillah before an ordinary activity today?
