Death leaves only our actions

“Everything we are running for we leave behind.”

The khateeb, at 19:19

In one sentence

Because death silently comes for everyone and leaves no second chance, believers should prioritize Allah’s rights, prepare through repentance and good deeds, and restore others’ rights before meeting Him.

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that death comes quietly for every person, regardless of age or status. The imam also remembered September 11 and beloved members of the community who have passed away. Family and wealth cannot accompany us beyond the grave, but our deeds do. We should pray, ask Allah for forgiveness each night and morning, make tomorrow better than yesterday, and return people’s rights. Remembering death should help us live with humility, purpose, and stronger faith.

  1. What is one good deed you would want to carry with you after death?
  2. What could make tomorrow better than yesterday?
  3. Who might need an apology or kindness from us this week?
