Trust Allah when answers differ

“If Allah decided to answer your dua, He will answer your dua the way He knows it is better for us.”

The khateeb, at 23:32

In one sentence

The khutbah teaches that believers should trust Allah’s wisdom in every outcome, seek guidance through thoughtful decisions and istikhara, and never oppress others because Allah hears every dua and cares for the vulnerable.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Introduces istikhara as asking Allah to bless a decision, after consulting experienced people and reflecting carefully.
  2. Explains that Allah hears every prayer but may withhold what would harm a person, comparing this to a child asking for a sharp knife.
  3. Uses the story of Musa’s mother to show how Allah protects frightened believers and restores what they fear losing.
  4. Warns against oppressing anyone because Allah hears the dua of the oppressed.
  5. Applies the message to Gaza, emphasizing that Allah may answer prayers through unexpected changes and that martyrs’ deeds are not lost.
  6. Concludes by affirming love and trust in Allah, followed by communal supplications and prayer recitation.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminded us that Allah hears every prayer and knows what is best for us. When we face an important decision, we should seek advice, think carefully, then pray istikhara and trust Allah’s outcome. The story of Musa’s mother showed that Allah can protect and restore what seems impossible to save. We were also warned never to oppress anyone because Allah cares about the oppressed and hears their prayers. The sermon connected this hope to Gaza, reminding us that Allah may bring change in unexpected ways and that innocent people’s good deeds are not forgotten.
