Arrogance rejects Allah, but repentance restores faith
“Recognize that we are going to fall.”
In one sentence
Human beings are honored because Allah gave them knowledge and the capacity to choose obedience, but Iblis shows that arrogance and rejecting Allah's commands lead to disbelief, whereas repentance restores the sinner.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Allah already knew humanity would inhabit the earth and taught Adam knowledge that demonstrated the wisdom of creation.
- Humans and jinn can disobey, yet humans can become the best of creation through faith, knowledge, and good deeds.
- The angels' prostration to Adam was an act of respect and obedience to Allah, not worship of Adam.
- Iblis, a jinn included in the command, refused because of arrogance and challenged Allah's judgment of Adam's status.
- The khutbah distinguishes sinful disobedience followed by repentance from rejecting Allah's command itself, which constitutes disbelief.
- Listeners are urged to repent, obey Allah's commands, and protect themselves and their families from Shaytan's arrogance.

Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“Mankind is a different kind of creation, right? Other than the angels and other than the rest of the creation of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
“No I'm better than him I'm better than him Why should I show him Being greater than me But I am actually better?”
“Recognize the weakness Recognize that we are going to fall And do tawbah to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will forgive you”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
Allah gave human beings knowledge and the ability to choose, so people can rise through faith and good deeds. Iblis fell because he became arrogant, rejected Allah's command, and refused to repent; Adam's example shows the importance of returning to Allah after sin. We should obey Allah's commands while admitting our weakness and turning back when we fail. At home, we can help one another avoid the arrogance of thinking our opinions matter more than Allah's guidance.
- What does it mean to be honored as a human being?
- How can we show repentance after making a mistake?
- What is one command from Allah we can practice more carefully this week?
