Reviving the ummah starts with our families
“What is under our control that we see is going wrong, and we have to fix it?”
Reviving the Muslim ummah begins with self-examination, repentance joined to action, teamwork, and intentional family formation that raises principled and generous individuals.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- The speaker praises the preservation of knowledge about the Prophet and urges prioritizing deen and the hereafter.
- He examines Muslim decline, emphasizing internal weaknesses alongside external oppression and historical forces.
- He argues that revival requires self-criticism, governance, teamwork, and coordinated action rather than passive supplication.
- He turns to the Muslim family as the foundation that shapes future leaders and citizens.
- He urges parents to discuss faith, family history, service, and charity while involving children in sadaqah.
In the khateeb's words
“The external, we don't control it. But what is it that we control? What is under our control that we see is going wrong, and we have to fix it?”
“To make istighfar to make tawbah follow it with an action. But for the ummah to revive we have to master teamwork.”
“The second thing that we have to examine is the structure of the Muslim family that produces the Muslim individual.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that a stronger Muslim community begins with examining ourselves and our homes. Caring for children means more than providing meals, clean clothes, and checking their grades; it also means talking with them about faith, character, and purpose. He encouraged parents to share family stories of people who served others, practiced their deen, and gave generously. He also urged us to include children in charity so they experience giving themselves. Alongside repentance and remembrance of Allah, he called for action and learning to work together toward shared goals.
- What would you like us to talk about more at home besides school and grades?
- Who in our family or community would you like to learn more about, and why?
