Why life must continue beyond death

“Life in itself is not big enough and long enough for us to attain that perfection.”

The khateeb, at 15:16

Because Allah creates with wisdom and purpose, human life must continue beyond death so people can attain the perfection they are given capacity for, while Muslims should create a positive Islamic legacy through their conduct.

For the dinner table

Today the khateeb reminded us that everything has a purpose. We eat, work and even scroll on our phones for a reason, and in nature the wind, the falling leaves and the bees all have their jobs. So it would not make sense for our whole existence to have no purpose. Allah gave us minds, choices and the ability to keep growing in knowledge and goodness, but we can never finish that growth in this short life. A wise Creator would not give us these gifts only to end them at death, just as a wise artist would not destroy a masterpiece before anyone could enjoy it. That is one reason we believe in the hereafter, where our journey towards perfection continues. He also reminded us during Islamic Heritage Month that our actions today become tomorrow's Islamic history, so we should behave in ways that make people think well of Allah.

  1. What is one thing you did today, and what was the real reason you did it?
  2. What is something you want to keep getting better at for your whole life?
  3. How can the way we act at school or work help people think well of Islam?
