The Quran should guide every part of life
“We need guidance so that we do not harm ourselves or others.”
Allah’s guidance, accessed through the Quran and exemplified by Prophet Muhammad, should direct every area of life and help believers carry Ramadan’s lessons into the rest of the year.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces Allah as al-Fattah and presents the Quran as a key to guidance.
- Explains Quran 2:1, 5 as describing guided believers through faith, prayer, charity, and certainty in the Hereafter.
- Argues guidance is needed for worship, ethical conduct, family, work, finances, and community decisions.
- Identifies the Quran, the Prophet’s example, hadith, and seerah as sources of direction.
- Calls listeners to study these sources, continue Ramadan’s lessons, and persevere through hardship.
- Concludes with community announcements and supplications for guidance and the Hereafter.
In the khateeb's words
“these keys that Allah is talking about are the keys that opens the treasures in the quran”
“we need guidance so that we do not harm ourselves or others”
“islam came to address criminal behavior not to support or facilitate it”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that Allah gives us guidance through the Quran and through the example of Prophet Muhammad. The Quran is like a key that opens wisdom for worship, character, family, work, and community life. We should keep praying, reading and studying, giving from what Allah provides, and carrying Ramadan’s lessons into the next eleven months. When life is difficult or confusing, we can return to these sources and ask Allah to keep us on the straight path. We should also avoid harming others and reject criminal behavior while helping our community with our time, skills, and resources.
- What is one Ramadan lesson you want our family to keep practicing?
- When you feel unsure about a choice, where can you look for guidance?
- How can our family use its time, skills, or resources to help the community?
