Surat al-Kahf guards against deception
“Always attribute your success and your wealth to Allah.”
The khutbah argues that believers can withstand the Dajjal’s deception by understanding Surat al-Kahf, guarding themselves against conformity, wealth, knowledge, and power, and remaining humble, righteous, and united.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Warns that al-Dajjal is the greatest fitnah and teaches seeking protection through prayer and Surat al-Kahf.
- Explains the cave as protection and presents four Surat al-Kahf stories as defenses against conformity, wealth, knowledge, and power.
- Applies the warning to propaganda, AI, consumer culture, and deceptive appearances, urging listeners to avoid testing themselves against al-Dajjal.
- Draws practical lessons: stay with righteous companions, attribute blessings to Allah, seek knowledge humbly, and treat authority as a trust.
- Urges listeners to read and understand Surat al-Kahf on Fridays, follow the Sunnah, perform sincere good deeds, and avoid shirk.
- Calls Muslims to reconcile, reject hatred and estrangement, and unite amid suffering in Palestine and other places.
In the khateeb's words
“Memorizing doesn't mean just memorizing it and not understanding its meaning, but memorizing with the understanding of the meaning to protect ourselves from this fitna that's going to come to us.”
“So always attribute your success and your wealth to Allah. Because it's from Him that you have this wealth.”
“Do not hate one another, Do not have jealousy for one another. Do not turn your backs to one another.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah encouraged us to read Surat Al-Kahf on Fridays and understand its lessons as protection from the trials of the Dajjal. The imam explained how its four main stories teach us about the tests of following the crowd, wealth, knowledge, and power. He reminded us to choose friends who help us remember Allah, thank Allah for our blessings, and keep learning our deen with patience and humility. Whatever influence or responsibility we have, even at home, is a gift from Allah that we should use to serve others. He also called us to let go of jealousy and hatred, make peace with one another, and pray for people who are suffering.
- What could a good friend do to help you make the right choice when everyone else is doing something different?
- What is one blessing you are thankful to Allah for, and how could you share its benefit?
- What could you say to begin making peace after an argument?
