Islam, the single faith ordained for the five resolute messengers, calls believers in America to gratitude, unity, and active propagation of the religion through knowledge, good character, and civic engagement.
The khutbah in 8 steps
- Opening Arabic khutbah formulas and Quranic introduction
- Explanation of Surah Ash-Shura 42:13 and the five ulul azm messengers
- Reflection on Nuh's 950-year perseverance and the universality of Islam seen in Africa
- Rebuttal of the idea that Islam is backward or only prohibitive; Islam honors mercy, cleanliness, education, and technology
- The story of Qarun as a lesson that every blessing comes from Allah and must be used for the Hereafter, good deeds, and avoiding corruption
- Call to be grateful for blessings and to remember they will be questioned on the Day of Judgment
- Practical call to establish Islam in America: seek knowledge, vote, respond to invitations to good, reach out with mercy, and avoid isolation
- Closing supplications and prayer
In the khateeb's words
“people they will judge us upon our own actions not our talks”
“we should not isolate ourselves from the society that we live within we should reach out we should vote November is coming it's very crucial time now so we should vote and go out”
For the dinner table
The Imam taught from Surah Shura about the one religion Allah gave to five great prophets, Nuh, Ibrahim, Musa, Isa, and Muhammad, peace be upon them all. He said Islam is not backward; it calls us to knowledge, mercy, respect, and using every blessing for Allah and for others. He told the story of Qarun, a rich man who forgot that everything comes from Allah, and warned us not to be arrogant about what we have. Here in America, we have a chance to live our faith openly, to vote, to invite others to good, and to show people Islam through kindness. So tonight, let's talk about what blessing each of us can use to help someone else or to represent Islam well.
- What is one thing Allah gave you that you can use to help someone this week?
- How can we show our neighbors that Islam is about mercy and respect?
- Why do you think people pay more attention to what we do than to what we say?
