Do what you can for Palestine
Believers must remain steadfast in truth, justice, and solidarity with Palestine through principled action, continued effort, and dua without losing hope.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens with Anas al-Sharif’s martyrdom as an example of steadfastness.
- Connects the prophets’ mission with tawhid, justice, and refusing to compromise truth.
- Uses examples from the Prophet’s life to distinguish principles from flexible tactics.
- Draws lessons from Tipu Sultan, Umar Mukhtar, and Sultan Abdul Hamid II.
- Calls for boycotts, civic engagement, conversations, and dua for Palestine and Gaza.
- Reads Anas al-Sharif’s final will, followed by prayers and Qur’an recitation.
In the khateeb's words
“you can compromise sometimes in the tactics but we must never compromise in the principles of truth and justice”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that faith means holding onto truth and justice even when doing so is difficult. The Prophet Muhammad showed that we may adjust tactics, but we should not trade away our core principles or look down on people because of wealth or status. The khateeb asked us to remember Palestine and Gaza through steady effort: boycotts, civic engagement, honest conversations, and dua. Anas al-Sharif’s final message was presented as a personal reminder to care for Palestine and support his family. We can keep hope alive by doing what is within our power and trusting Allah with the result.
- How can our family keep caring about suffering people without becoming hopeless?
- What is one helpful action we can take this week for justice or community care?
- Why is it important to stand by principles while still choosing wise tactics?
