For the dinner table

The khutbah reminded us that death is certain, so we should ask what we are preparing for our meeting with Allah. Luqman’s advice begins with worshipping Allah alone, honoring parents without obeying them in disobedience, and remembering that Allah knows even hidden deeds. We prepare by establishing prayer, encouraging good with wisdom, being patient, and treating people with humility and a gentle voice. When we sin, we should repent quickly and never despair of Allah’s mercy. A good life is one in which belief, responsibility, character, and hope in Allah work together.
