Make every action meaningful worship
Worship should be the priority of daily life: with sincere intention, reliance on Allah's help, and reflection on Surah al-Fatihah, ordinary actions and prayer can become meaningful worship, especially as Ramadan approaches.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Explains that sincere intention can turn community service and daily actions into ibadah.
- Emphasizes Allah as life's priority and teaches reliance on His help and guidance.
- Encourages reflection on Surah Al-Fatihah during salah, Qiyam, and Taraweeh.
- Offers prayers for Islam, Muslims, oppressed people in Gaza and Palestine, and communal unity.
- Leads congregational prayer with recitations from Al-Fatihah, Al-A'la, and Al-Ghashiyah.
- Reminds worshippers to appreciate what is already before them and announces Ramadan iftar sponsorship needs.
In the khateeb's words
“Helping out in the community, anything that we do, That can be Ibadah if we have the right intention.”
“It is only through His help and through His assistance, and through His guidance that we will be able to be successful”
“As we get closer to Ramadan, as we're standing in Ramadan, in Qiyam, in Taraweeh, Let's try to pay attention to Surah Al-Fatiha and try to benefit, try to extract those lessons and benefit from The lessons of Surah Al-Fatiha.”
“subhanAllah, instead of looking for the next thing, Think about what we have already in front of us.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminded us that ordinary acts, such as helping our community, can become worship when our intention is sincere. Allah should be our priority, and we succeed by asking for His help and guidance. We were encouraged to slow down and reflect on Surah Al-Fatihah whenever we pray, especially during Ramadan's Qiyam and Taraweeh. The khateeb also prayed for Muslims facing hardship, including people in Gaza and Palestine, and for unity, faith, and wisdom. Finally, we were reminded to appreciate the guidance and blessings already before us, followed by a brief announcement about sponsoring Ramadan iftar nights.
- When has a good intention made an ordinary helpful action feel like worship?
- What part of Al-Fatihah would you like to understand or reflect on more during Ramadan?
- What blessing do we already have that we sometimes overlook while searching for something new?
