Keep the world in your hands, not your heart

“It's nothing wrong if the dunya will be in your hand, but the problem is the dunya in your heart.”

The khateeb, at 22:07

Because attachment to worldly life can displace love of Allah and the Hereafter, believers should keep worldly responsibilities in their hands rather than their hearts while organizing life around faith, prayer, and preparation for the Hereafter.

For the dinner table

The khateeb reminded us that worldly life is temporary, even though it can feel very attractive and important. Islam does not tell us to stop working or caring for our families; it teaches us to keep dunya in our hands, not in our hearts. We should remember death, choose friends who remind us of Allah, and organize our days around prayer and our Islamic duties. Even when people lose worldly things, their faith and connection to Allah are the lasting treasures. Our goal is to seek Allah's pleasure while using worldly blessings responsibly.

  1. What is one worldly thing you enjoy that you should keep in your hand, not your heart?
  2. What good deed could you “plant” this week for the Hereafter?
  3. Who helps you remember Allah when you get distracted?
