Hope for Jannah drives good deeds
“He wants you to enjoy this life, whatever Allah gave you, enjoy it, in halal way.”
The khutbah teaches that hope for Jannah should motivate persistent worship, repentance, and good deeds while believers live this world in a balanced, halal way.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Continues describing Jannah’s immense rewards, palaces, trees, and ranks.
- Explains how dhikr and acts of worship build and expand one’s palace.
- Emphasizes repentance and Allah’s limitless mercy toward sinners.
- Describes intercession on Judgment Day, especially the Prophet’s intercession.
- Explains that good deeds protect from Hellfire and raise believers’ ranks.
- Concludes by urging a balanced life that enjoys halal blessings while remembering the Hereafter.
In the khateeb's words
“whoever says, subhanallah wa bihamdihi, a tree will be planted for him in his kingdom.”
“He is waiting for you to ask for forgiveness. And, everything will be wiped out. And, you start fresh.”
“By my power and my majesty and my supremacy and my greatness, I will take out of hellfire who said, Ashahadu an la ilaha illallah.”
“Islam is a balanced religion. So, He wants you to enjoy this life, whatever Allah gave you, enjoy it, in halal way. But at the same time, keep in mind, in your heart, remember the hereafter.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that Jannah is beyond anything we can imagine, and even its lowest rank is an enormous kingdom. Small acts of worship, remembering Allah, praying extra prayers, reading Qur’an, fasting, giving zakah, and asking forgiveness, can build our reward and raise our rank. We should never despair after sinning because Allah’s mercy is vast and repentance lets us begin again. The sermon also teaches that the Prophet’s intercession and Allah’s mercy give believers hope, while good deeds protect us from Hellfire. We should enjoy Allah’s blessings in this world in halal ways while keeping the Hereafter in our hearts.
- What is one small act of worship you could practice more consistently?
- What does asking Allah for forgiveness mean to you?
- How can our family enjoy life while still remembering the Hereafter?
