For the dinner table

Today's khutbah reminded us that Muslims deeply honor Isa, or Jesus, and his mother Maryam. The khateeb explained that Isa is a great messenger of Allah, that his miraculous birth and miracles came through Allah's power, and that we worship Allah alone. He also described the Muslim belief that Allah saved Isa, raised him alive into the heavens, and will send him back to rule with justice before the end of time. Through Ja'far's choice to recite Surah Maryam to a Christian king, we learned to consider the people we are speaking with when explaining our faith. The khateeb encouraged us to learn our beliefs clearly and use opportunities with friends, neighbors, and coworkers to share them beautifully, asking Allah to guide us and others.

  1. What is one thing from the khutbah about Isa or Maryam that you would like to explain to a friend?
  2. Why do you think Ja'far chose to share Surah Maryam with the Christian king?
  3. What question about our faith could we learn the answer to together this week?
