Death & the hereafterFrom the masjid's own video, Apr 11, 2026.

Worldly life is a means, not a goal

“We live intentionally, we live with purpose, we live with love, we live with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”

The khateeb, at 51:32

In one sentence

Because worldly life is temporary and death certain, believers should use it as a means to worship Allah, live intentionally, repair relationships, and build a legacy of gratitude, forgiveness, and good deeds.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Frames worldly life as temporary play, distraction, adornment, boasting, and competition
  2. Clarifies that loving life is permissible, but making it the goal displaces Allah
  3. Uses allegories of the well, lion, snake, mice, and honey to illustrate mortality and distraction
  4. Urges listeners to consider how they want to die, be remembered, and influence others
  5. Calls for intentional living, family care, gratitude, forgiveness, and stronger relationships with Allah
  6. Remembers Mahmood’s gratitude and forgiveness, then closes with Quranic recitation and supplication

Keep Allah central instead of making money, status, fame, or comfort life’s purpose.
Remember death regularly and evaluate whether daily actions will testify for or against you.
Repair relationships now by apologizing, forgiving, expressing gratitude, and spending meaningful time with family.
Build a beneficial legacy by praying for children, teaching them about Allah, and treating others with mercy.
Practice gratitude and contentment, following Mahmood’s example of thanking Allah and forgiving people.
