Islam's message must reach everyone
“This message is not supposed to be sitting in Makkah or Medina or in the Arab countries.”
The khutbah argues that Islam’s universal message reached the world through the companions’ courageous acceptance, defense, and promotion, and that Muslims today should persevere through trials and help carry it forward.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Reflects on Umrah in Makkah and the global presence of Muslims.
- Explains how early Meccan believers accepted, defended, and promoted the Prophet’s message despite persecution.
- Contrasts the companions’ faith with Quraysh objections, ridicule, and oppression, including the moon-splitting narrative.
- Presents Muhammad as a mercy to all worlds and Islam as a universal message.
- Connects the companions’ sacrifices with contemporary suffering, including Gaza, and the trials believers face.
- Concludes with the Hijrah and Suraqah’s bracelet story as evidence of eventual success, urging listeners to spread the message.
In the khateeb's words
“This message is not supposed to be sitting in Makkah or Medina or in the Arab countries. No. Messages for all of them.”
“The easiest thing was to Stay away from it. But they took the difficult thing, the most difficult thing, at the most difficult hour.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that Islam is a message for all people and all parts of the world. The earliest Muslims accepted the truth, defended it, and helped share it even when doing so was difficult. Their sacrifices during the persecution in Makkah, and later at places like Badr and Uhud, helped preserve the message for us. We should expect that faith can involve tests, while remembering that Allah’s promises can unfold even when believers seem weak. The speaker encouraged us to help share Islam with others and to pray for peace and mercy, especially for Gaza and all humanity.
- When is it difficult to stand up for what you believe is right?
- How could our family share something good with someone who has never heard it?
- What can the story of Suraqah teach us about hope during hard times?
