GratitudeFrom the masjid's own video, Jul 24, 2026.
Notice your blessings before they disappear
“The whole wealth is nothing but the charity you give that you will save for you on the day of judgment.”
In one sentence
Muslims must develop a constant attitude of gratitude by consciously recognizing the everyday blessings they already enjoy, security, health, daily provision, functioning senses, instead of fixating on what they lack or what others have.
The khutbah in 9 steps
- Opening praise of Allah, shahada, and verses commanding taqwa
- Hadith: waking up secure, healthy, with a day's provision is like owning the whole world
- The illusion of wealth: you can only eat one meal, wear one outfit, drive one car; only charity endures
- Appreciating bodily blessings (breathing, walking, sight) that are only noticed when lost
- Aisha's narration: two months with no cooking fire in the Prophet's houses, contrasted with our food waste
- Practical experiments to feel blessings: sleep on the floor three days, close your eyes five minutes, hold your breath
- Do not stretch your eyes toward what others have; look at those with less (Quran)
- Use blessings to please Allah: charity, volunteering, sharing knowledge and reminders
- Closing supplications for the congregation, parents, and the mosque
Try this week
Sleep on the floor for three days to rediscover the blessing of a comfortable bed
Close your eyes for five minutes while awake to appreciate the gift of sight
Hold your breath briefly to recognize the blessing of each inhale and exhale
Praise Allah constantly and say Alhamdulillah for blessings already enjoyed, not only after losing them
Look at people who have less than you instead of coveting those who have more
Give in charity if Allah has granted you money
Volunteer and help at the masjid if Allah has granted you free time
Share knowledge gently as small nasiha with those who need it
Stop wasting food, remembering the Prophet's households went two months without cooking
Make dua to recognize blessings while they last rather than after they are gone

Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“so the whole wealth is nothing but the charity you give that you will save for you on the day of judgment”
“that's why the prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam wants us to appreciate the ni'mah of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala”
“that's why we said and we emphasize that only to be able to inhale and exhale one time this is a great ni'mah from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala”
“always look at the people who are not having what you have this will help you and allow you to be reminded of the ni'ma that you have”
