Allah alone deserves our worship
“The core issue is that there is no God but Allah.”
The core dispute between Islam and every opposing community is la ilaha illallah, opponents dodge that issue by attacking character and following their desires, while Allah's signs in creation (shade, night, wind, rain) prove He alone is in control and worthy of worship.
The khutbah in 8 steps
- Opening shahada and warning that innovation in worship is the worst of affairs
- Quraysh knew the Prophet was al-sadiq al-ameen yet mocked him to avoid the real issue
- Opponents assassinate character instead of addressing the claim that there is no God but Allah
- Surah al-Furqan 43: those who take their own desires as their god cannot be guided even by the Prophet's love
- Surah al-Furqan 44: those who refuse to hear and understand are worse than cattle
- Signs in creation: the stretched shade, night and sleep, the wind heralding rain, pure water reviving barren land (al-Furqan 45-50)
- Allah diversifies the signs yet most people refuse; Muslims must stand firmly on tawhid
- Closing dua for oppressed Muslims in Gaza, Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan and worldwide
In the khateeb's words
“The core issue is that there is no God but Allah. Everything else supports that.”
“A person who has the ability to listen but refuse to follow guidance is like a person who can't hear at all.”
“The cow has even more sense. The camel has more sense. The sheep has more sense than a disbelieving human being.”
“We ask Allah to save our brothers and sisters in Ghazal, Palestine, Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kurdistan, Somali, Yemen, and all over the world.”
For the dinner table
This khutbah was about the most important sentence in Islam: there is no God but Allah. The khateeb explained that the people of Makkah knew Prophet Muhammad was honest, but they made fun of him instead of answering his message, because they didn't want to face the real question. He showed how people can treat their own desires, money, power, fame, like gods, and how someone who refuses to listen to truth is like someone who can't hear at all. Then he pointed to everyday miracles: the shade moving with the sun, sleep resting us each night, the wind that smells like rain before it falls, and pure water bringing dead desert land back to life. All of these, he said, are signs that one God is in control of everything. He ended by asking Allah to protect suffering Muslims around the world and urging everyone to stand firmly on the truth.
- If someone teased you for saying something true, would you argue about the insult or go back to the real question?
- What is one thing in nature, like rain, sleep, or shadows, that reminds you Allah is taking care of everything?
- Can you think of something people chase after, like money or fame, the way they should chase after Allah?
