Your life is a trust from Allah
“Our responsibility is to ensure that no one in our community sleeps hungry.”
The khutbah argues that every Muslim's life is an amanah from Allah, requiring accountable worship, ethical conduct, care for family and community, and concern for the oppressed before being questioned about it.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Opens with taqwa and defines life, speech, wealth, and relationships as trusts.
- Explains duties to Allah through timely prayer, fasting, zakah, charity, and avoiding prohibitions.
- Extends responsibility to family, children, neighbors, work, business, speech, and excellence.
- Calls for caring for the poor and hungry and standing for justice for oppressed people worldwide.
- Urges awareness, charity, advocacy, and dua for suffering communities as part of ummah responsibility.
- Closes with accountability for life, youth, wealth, and knowledge, urging action before death.
- Adds announcements about the October 25 class, madrasa, food sale, donations, Quran project, receipts, and parking.
In the khateeb's words
“We are all responsible. So Muslims, we have a responsibility in our worship as well.”
“Remember with Ihsan that Allah Azza wa Jal is watching us. Allah Azza wa Jal is aware of what we do.”
“So our responsibility is to ensure that no one in our community sleeps hungry. Muslims or non-Muslims.”
“Raise awareness, support with charity, use our voice and influence for justice and use the best weapon that Allah gave us, our dua.”
For the dinner table
Today's khutbah reminded us that every part of life is an amanah, or trust, from Allah. We are responsible not only for worship, but also for our families, neighbors, work, words, wealth, and treatment of people in need. The speaker urged us to stand for justice, support the oppressed, and make dua for people suffering around the world. We should use our time, youth, money, and knowledge well because we will answer for them before Allah. This week, we can choose one responsibility to improve and one person or community to help.
- Which responsibility at home, school, or work would you like to carry out with more ihsan?
- What could our family do to help someone who is hungry or in need?
- How can we use our words and conversations more responsibly?
