Worship must lead to informed action
“Jum'ah should lead us out into the world.”
Muslims must overcome material and spiritual deception by cultivating taqwa and tawakkul, honestly examining themselves, and turning worship into informed, ethical action.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Urges Quranic reflection, taqwa, and tawakkul as protection and a way out.
- Surveys Muslim wealth, strategic geography, resources, and youthful population.
- Defines ghurur as deception, delusion, and stagnation that neutralize Muslim potential.
- Shows how identity, family heritage, ritual worship, scholarship, and past glory can create false confidence.
- Prescribes intelligence, self-knowledge, knowledge of Allah, and awareness of current realities.
- Calls listeners to carry Jum'ah beyond the mosque by implementing Quran and Sunnah in daily life.
In the khateeb's words
“Jum'ah should lead us out into the world. We should take the spirit of Jum'ah out into the world.”
“Don't just follow mainstream news. Get alternatives. Contact other people. Be aware.”
“We need to read it, reflect it, and put it into practice.”
For the dinner table
Today the khateeb reminded us to stay conscious of Allah and depend on Him through every situation. He warned that we can deceive ourselves by thinking our worship, family background, or past achievements excuse the wrong things we do now. Prayer, fasting, and asking for forgiveness should help us become more honest, caring, and ready to do what is right. He encouraged us to recognize our strengths and weaknesses, reflect on the Quran, and pay attention to what is happening around us. As a family, we can carry the spirit of Jumu'ah home by putting what we learn into practice and caring for others.
- How could remembering Allah help you handle a difficult moment at school or home?
- What good quality from someone in our family would you like to practice yourself?
