Truth is not measured by numbers
“It's okay to be a part of the minority.”
Believers should not measure truth, safety, or success by majority status or numbers, but remain among the faithful few by trusting Allah and following His commands.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces the idea of being among Allah’s few grateful servants.
- Uses Noah to show that few believers can represent true safety and success.
- Uses Talut and Jalut to show that victory depends on Allah, not numbers.
- Contrasts Badr and Hunayn to warn against both fear and pride in numbers.
- Surveys Quranic warnings about most people and applies them to daily life.
- Closes with the hadith about Islam’s strangeness and a dua for steadfastness.
In the khateeb's words
“the only true safety and peace and security comes from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
“It's okay to be a part of the minority. It's okay to be a part of those few people who are trying to be good.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that being in the majority is not the same as being right, safe, or successful. Through Noah, Talut and Goliath, Badr, and Hunayn, it teaches that a small group can remain strong when it trusts Allah, while a large group can stumble when it becomes proud of its numbers. We should hold onto faith and Allah’s commands even when people around us choose differently. The speaker encourages us not to be ashamed of feeling different, to support Muslims in Palestine, and to stay united in goodness. We can ask Allah to make us among His grateful, righteous servants and among those who enter Jannah.
- When is it hard to follow what you know is right instead of what most people are doing?
- What is one way we can trust Allah when we feel small or outnumbered?
- How can our family be among the few who do something good this week?
