A strong community needs more than growth
“The hidden deed is one of the greatest medicines for the ego.”
A growing Muslim community becomes truly strong not through numbers, buildings, or convenience, but by detaching from dunya, cultivating sincerity and tawakkul, and remaining united in service to Allah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Announces a second Jumu'ah, parking procedures, the pilot program, community support, and welcomes a new shahadah.
- Celebrates community growth while asking what makes an ummah strong beyond numbers and institutions.
- Uses the hadith of wahan to warn that love of dunya and dislike of death can spiritually weaken a large community.
- Examines attachment to comfort and urges listeners to choose difficult acts of worship, forgiveness, and service.
- Examines attachment to status and security, urging hidden sincere deeds and tawakkul while planning responsibly.
- Concludes that death makes worldly milestones temporary, calling members to serve, endure inconvenience, and preserve unity despite disagreements.
In the khateeb's words
“But if the heart becomes attached to this dunya, then quantity can grow into spiritual weight.”
“Because the hidden deed is one of the greatest medicines for the ego.”
“And only one meeting will truly matter. That meeting is the meeting with Allah.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah celebrates a growing community but reminds us that size alone does not make an ummah strong. Real strength comes from choosing worship over comfort, sincerity over public approval, and trust in Allah over fear of uncertainty. We should plan and work responsibly while keeping our hearts dependent on Allah. Because this life and its milestones are temporary, we are encouraged to stay involved in the masjid, serve others, and remain united even when we disagree. The lasting milestone is our meeting with Allah.
- What is one good deed you could do this week without telling anyone?
- When is it hardest for you to trust Allah?
- How can our family help our community stay united?
