Allah preserves the ummah through faithful action
“Have a dedicated time between you and Allah every day in your qiyam before Fajr.”
The Muslim ummah's enduring strength comes from Allah, and believers should respond by acting for good, teaching beneficial knowledge, making dua, and staying connected in community.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Defines taqwa as life's central goal and recalls Hajj's unity.
- Uses the ummah's history, fig and olive trees, and conversion claims to argue Islam's enduring growth.
- Emphasizes Allah's preservation of the Quran and the ummah's continuing goodness despite opposition.
- Gives three responses: act and advocate, teach beneficial knowledge, and make dedicated dua.
- Calls listeners to stay connected to the jama'ah, sustain good deeds, and leave a continuing legacy.
In the khateeb's words
“have a dedicated time between you and Allah every day in your qiyam before fajr make dua ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala everything pour your heart out”
“you have none of that if you don't have Allah then none of this matters”
“the good deeds that you start they are going to continue non-stop”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that taqwa, or living with awareness of Allah, is our life's most important goal. Hajj shows the strength and unity of Muslims even when the ummah faces suffering and opposition. We are encouraged to respond by doing good, teaching useful knowledge, making sincere dua, and staying connected to the community. We should rely on Allah rather than thinking worldly resources are enough by themselves. When our good deeds continue through the people we teach and help, they can become a lasting legacy.
- What is one helpful thing you know that you could teach someone else?
- What could help you make more time for dua this week?
- How can our family stay connected to and benefit the Muslim community?
