Keep your heart on the Hereafter

“Every single day, you've got to watch your actions.”

The khateeb, at 17:31

In one sentence

Because worldly life is a temporary field of responsibility and testing, believers should attach their hearts to the Hereafter, align daily actions with Allah’s guidance, and act sincerely before accountability arrives.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Life passes quickly, leaving people with daily responsibilities toward themselves, others, and Allah.
  2. Following Allah’s guidance protects believers from fear and regret, while conditional faith collapses under hardship.
  3. The dunya is attractive but temporary, and deeds are seeds for the harvest of the Hereafter.
  4. Daily self-accountability requires correcting wrongs, seeking forgiveness, and remembering that every action will be exposed.
  5. Believers should keep their hearts attached to the Hereafter while fulfilling worldly duties and acting for Allah alone.
  6. The khutbah closes with prayers, a reminder to vote, and updated Friday prayer times.

For the dinner table

Today the imam reminded us that every day we live is a small piece of our life that will not come back, and that each new day brings new responsibilities to Allah, to our family, and to the people around us. He said our life is like a garden: a good farmer waters it, protects it, and cuts away anything harmful, and we should look after our actions in the same way, saying sorry to Allah and fixing what we got wrong. He warned us not to love Allah only when things go our way, because this world is not Jannah and it will always have hard days. Allah sees everything we do and even what we intend, so we should try to do good for Allah's sake and not to impress people. Whoever follows Allah's guidance will have no fear and no regrets, and the best way to change the world is to start by changing ourselves.

  1. If your heart were a garden, what is one thing you want to water this week and one thing you want to clip away?
  2. Can you think of a time something didn't go your way? How can we still thank Allah on days like that?
  3. What is one good thing you could do this week only for Allah, even if nobody else notices?
