Keep asking Allah for steadfastness
“What you give for Allah is for you, so save something in your account.”
Muslims must constantly ask Allah for steadfastness (thabat) upon Islam, because hearts can deviate after guidance and only dying as a Muslim secures salvation.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Adhan/iqamah and opening supplication introducing the central dua for firmness upon Islam.
- Quranic warning not to let hearts deviate after guidance and the grave danger of dying outside Islam.
- The Prophet's frequent supplication, Ya Muqalliba al-quloob, thabbit qalbi ala deenik, reported from Aisha and Umm Salama.
- Stories of Khubayb ibn Adi and Sumaya bint Khayyat refusing to renounce Islam under torture and martyrdom.
- Etiquettes that cultivate firmness: reduce idle speech, eat moderately, and reduce sleep for night worship.
- The hadith qul amantu billah thumma staqim and the steadfastness of Jabir at the expedition of Mu'tah.
- Prioritizing the Hereafter over the world, enduring present trials, supporting the mosque, and concluding supplication.
In the khateeb's words
“What is important right now is me and you memorizing this dua to be saying all the time because there's a lot of death these days and there's a lot of sickness”
“so daily Quran you know Quran is light in his heart light in his home light in his cover so always Quran, Quran regardless”
“what you give for Allah is for you so save something in your account”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that one of Allah’s greatest gifts is to remain firm upon Islam until death. He encouraged us to repeat duas asking Allah to keep our hearts steady, especially the dua, “Ya Muqalliba al-quloob, thabbit qalbi ala deenik.” He shared the examples of Khubayt ibn Adi and Sumayyah, who stayed firm despite terrible persecution. He also advised reducing excessive talking, eating, and sleeping so we have more strength for worship. Finally, he reminded us to invest in our akhirah through Quran, dua, patience, and sincere charity.
- What is one small habit that could help you become more consistent in worship?
- Which part of Khubayt ibn Adi’s story stands out to you, and why?
- If you were checking your dunya and akhirah accounts today, what would you want to add to each one?
