Praise Allah in every condition

“We praise Allah in all conditions.”

The khateeb, at 22:21

In one sentence

Believers should praise Allah in every condition, recognizing Him as the true source and nurturer of all good while practicing humility, patience, and gradual tarbiyah.

The khutbah in 7 steps

  1. Introduces Alhamdulillah as a believer’s response in both ease and hardship.
  2. Explains Alhamdulillah in Surah al-Fatiha as timeless, universal praise belonging to Allah.
  3. Distinguishes hamd directed to Allah from human compliments and gratitude, cultivating humility.
  4. Uses grief and personal loss to illustrate praising Allah through painful circumstances.
  5. Explains Rabbil Alameen as Allah’s nurturing lordship and applies it to parental trust.
  6. Defines tarbiyah as gradual development, urging parents to train sound judgment rather than mere compliance.
  7. Encourages patience with children, new Muslims, and anyone whose spiritual growth takes time.

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah invited us to think about what we mean when we say Alhamdulillah: all praise belongs to Allah, in happy times and difficult ones. When something good happens through us, remembering that Allah enabled it helps us stay humble while still thanking the people who help us. The khateeb also explained that Allah is our Rabb, the One who nurtures and sustains us as we grow. Parents help children grow by preparing them to make good choices, including when no one is watching, and trusting Allah with what they cannot control. Growth takes time, so we should guide one another patiently, keep hope after mistakes, and remember that caring for others teaches us too.

  1. When someone compliments you, how could you respond with gratitude and humility?
  2. What helps you choose the right thing when your friends are choosing something else?
  3. What is one small step you want to take in your faith, and how can we support you?
