Faithful action matters more than visible success

“What positive impact can I play for the Muslims all around the world, for my own life, for my family?”

The khateeb, at 24:01

In one sentence

The story of Habib al-Najjar teaches that a believer's success is measured by faithful engagement in serving truth and benefiting others, not by status, location, or visible results.

The khutbah in 5 steps

  1. Introduces Surah Al-Yaseen's story of a town receiving three messengers and asks listeners to imaginatively enter the scene.
  2. Describes the townspeople's rejection, escalating hostility, and threats against the messengers.
  3. Follows Habib al-Najjar, an overlooked craftsman from the city's outskirts, who urges his people to follow the messengers and is killed.
  4. Explains that the story's location matters less than its lessons about Allah's different measure of significance.
  5. Applies the story to youth and all Muslims: success lies in faithful engagement and positive action, not visible outcomes or social status.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reflected on the story in Surah Al-Yaseen of a man named Habib al-Najjar who came from the outskirts of his city. Although he had little social status, he courageously supported the messengers and cared about guiding his people. He was killed, but Allah honored him and preserved his example for humanity. The lesson is that success is not measured only by visible results; our responsibility is to engage faithfully and do what good we can. Each of us can ask what positive action we can take today.

  1. What is one small way you could help someone this week?
  2. Why might someone with little power still make a big difference?
  3. How can we keep doing what is right when we do not see immediate results?
