Make salah your anchor in every trial
“Your life should be revolving around your salah instead of finding an avenue or finding an outlet for you when it comes to salah.”
Salah must remain a Muslim's central anchor and organizing priority in times of personal, communal, and global trial.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The khutbah recounts Tamim al-Dari's encounter with al-Dajjal and the companions' fear.
- It contrasts worldly concerns with the companions' first question: how to pray during extraordinary upheaval.
- It argues that salah protects the ummah while warning against performing prayer mechanically and without focus.
- It uses the examples of Musa and Isa to show prayer's divine importance.
- It connects Isra and Mi'raj to the exceptional status of salah and applies al-Baqarah's message of human capacity to missed-prayer excuses.
- It closes with supplications for Muslims, Palestine, Sudan, and the congregation.
In the khateeb's words
“their main objective dear brothers and sisters in Islam is their connection to their lord jalla jala that is their main concern”
“where it becomes clockwork to us where we don't focus on the very words we say”
“your life should be revolving around your salah instead of finding an avenue or finding an outlet for you when it comes to salah”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that salah should be our steady anchor when life feels frightening or confused. The companions of the Prophet worried about how to pray during al-Dajjal's upheaval, showing that worship came before protecting worldly plans. The khateeb reminded us that Musa was commanded to establish prayer, Isa spoke of prayer as an infant, and the Prophet received the prayer obligation during Isra and Mi'raj. We are encouraged not to pray mechanically, but to pay attention to the words and let prayer shape our schedules. When work, school, or world events feel overwhelming, we should return to salah and ask Allah for help.
- What helps you remember and focus on salah when your day is busy?
- If salah is the anchor of our day, what might we organize around it this week?
- Which story from the khutbah would you retell to a friend, and what would you say it teaches?
