Surah al-Munafiqun exposes hidden hypocrisy
“It's a spiritual disease that can silently infect any of our hearts in any time, in any era, at any moment.”
Surah al-Munafiqun serves as a weekly spiritual checkup, warning believers against hypocrisy's traits and calling them to humility, submission, generosity, solidarity, and truthfulness.

- Frames hypocrisy as an ongoing spiritual disease requiring regular self-examination.
- Warns against elitism, intellectual rebellion, and elevating personal reasoning above divine guidance.

- Calls for generosity, communal solidarity, standing with truth, and trusting Allah's vindication.
In the khateeb's words
“But it's a spiritual disease that can silently infect any of our hearts in any time, in any era, at any moment.”
“We cannot cherry pick the religion or reject the divine commands of Allah SWT based on our faulty understanding, our flawed understanding of what we think is more practical.”
“the antidote of stinginess of the hypocrites is generosity and solidarity.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us to check our own hearts regularly for arrogance, hypocrisy, and the desire to show off. The khateeb encouraged us to be humble, respect others, and submit to Allah’s guidance even when it challenges our preferences. Wealth and family are blessings, but we should not let our ambitions push prayer, good character, or service to others down our list of priorities. We can help our community through money, time, skills, and speaking up against injustice. Through the story of young Zayd ibn al-Arqam, we were reminded to stand with the truth and trust Allah even when doing so is difficult.
- What is one way we can practice humility with someone at school or at home?
- How could our family help someone this week using our time or skills?
- What would help you tell the truth when you feel afraid of someone’s reaction?
