For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah asked us to think about which companion we are feeding through our daily choices. The khateeb shared the story of Malik ibn Dinar’s dream, where his sins appeared as a powerful snake and his neglected good deeds as a weak old man. He explained that our deeds accompany us in this life, in the grave, and in the hereafter. A good life, he reminded us, includes a heart connected to Allah and content with what Allah has given. He encouraged us to seek forgiveness now, move away from influences that lead us into sin, and strengthen our prayers, kindness, charity, and other good deeds. He also reminded us of Allah’s mercy and invited us to reflect each day on whether our choices bring us closer to Him.

  1. What act of kindness could you do tomorrow to help strengthen your good deeds?
  2. What helps you feel thankful for what Allah has given you?
  3. How could we help each other make time for prayer each day?
