Use your blessings to serve the mosque
“Every single morning when we wake up, every single second, every single minute, we have so many opportunities that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has given us.”
The blessings of safety, faith, and a functioning masjid should move us to follow Ibrahim and Ismail by humbly serving, maintaining, and building the mosque while investing in future generations.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Gratitude for daily health, safety, family, and opportunities to do good.
- Ibrahim’s tests, expansive concern for descendants, and appointment as a role model.
- Shifting from asking what the masjid offers us to asking how we can serve it.
- Continuing parents’ sacrifices through dua, volunteerism, children’s involvement, and community building.
- Mosque etiquette, community announcements, and closing prayers for Muslims facing hardship.
In the khateeb's words
“Because every single morning when we wake up, every single second, every single minute, we have so many opportunities that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has given us”
“it's because our parents worked very hard they were very dedicated they loved Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala they loved the prophet they made dua for us”
For the dinner table
Allah gives us daily blessings such as health, safety, family, and another chance to do good. The khutbah teaches that Ibrahim and Ismail showed gratitude by building and caring for the House of Allah. Our masjid is also a gift, and we should not only ask what it can give us but how we can serve it. We can involve our children, volunteer, keep the mosque clean, support its programs, and make dua for future generations. The sacrifices of our parents brought us here, so we should continue their legacy with humility and dedication.
- Who could we remember in our dua this week?
- What is one job children can help with at the masjid?
- How can our family serve our community instead of only receiving from it?
