Hajj is a pillar not to delay
“If you are financially able, if you are physically able, if you are able to perform hajj, then you must go for hajj and you must not delay it.”
Hajj is an enduring act of worship practiced by the prophets and an obligatory pillar for Muslims who are financially and physically able, so they should prepare and not delay it.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Hajj is traced through the prophets Musa and Yunus and seventy prophets who prayed at Masjid al-Khayf.
- The Kaaba's custodians, the Quraysh, introduced idolatry before the Prophet Muhammad removed the idols at the conquest of Mecca.
- The Prophet's Farewell Pilgrimage established his example for performing hajj.
- Historical dangers and end-times references illustrate that hajj continues across generations.
- Muslims who can afford and physically perform hajj are urged to prepare early and fulfill this pillar.
In the khateeb's words
“So many prophets and messengers and many people, they were visiting that house over time.”
“if you are financially able, if you are physically able, if you are able to perform hajj, then you must go for hajj and you must not delay it.”
“You need to prepare yourself ahead of time, more than six months before the hajj.”
“Those who cannot afford it, they are not required to do so. But those who can afford it, they must.”
For the dinner table
Hajj is not a new practice; it was connected to many prophets before Prophet Muhammad. The Prophet Muhammad showed Muslims how to perform it and emphasized following his example. Hajj is one of Islam's pillars, but it is required only for people who are financially and physically able. The speaker encouraged eligible Muslims not to postpone it and to prepare well in advance. Families can respond by learning, planning, and sincerely asking Allah to make the journey possible.
