A sound heart requires daily self-examination
“Always take the truth from whoever gives you the truth.”
A sound heart is the foundation of faithful living, so believers must continually treat its diseases, especially arrogance, envy, and showing off, through remembrance, humility, gratitude, sincere intentions, and accountability before Allah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces the heart as the most important spiritual organ and connects remembrance of Allah with inner calm.
- Explains that salvation depends on meeting Allah with a sound heart, like the heart hadith describes.
- Examines arrogance as rejecting truth and looking down on people, urging humility and acceptance of sincere feedback.
- Discusses envy and teaches gratitude for Allah’s wisdom in distributing blessings.
- Warns against showing off and urges believers to renew their intentions and prefer sincere, private charity.
- Closes by emphasizing accountability, the brevity of worldly life, prioritizing Allah over dunya, and hoping for Jannah.
In the khateeb's words
“if you are nervous if you are stressed if you are anxious if you are angry then remember Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala always have Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in your mind and on your tongue”
“always take the truth from whoever gives you the truth that's a gift from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and don't look lowly on people”
“don't make this dunya your goal because Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will account will account for everything”
For the dinner table
The khutbah taught that our hearts need care just as much as our bodies do. Arrogance, envy, and showing off can damage the heart, while remembrance of Allah, humility, gratitude, and sincere intentions help heal it. We should accept good advice, avoid judging people by their appearance or possessions, and be thankful when Allah blesses others. Our worldly life is short, so we should enjoy lawful blessings without letting them become more important than Allah. The goal is to meet Allah with a sound heart and hope for His reward.
- What is one way we can practice humility when someone corrects us?
- How can we respond when a friend or sibling receives something we wanted?
- What helps you remember who you are doing a good deed for?
