Allah dignified us as human beings
“Let’s go back to the Quran, ask the Quran, ask Allah these questions, and then Allah will give us the answers.”
Our crises begin when we forget that Allah dignified us as human beings, so we should return to the Quran, seek forgiveness, and treat others as one honored family.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The speaker recalls his grandfather’s final word, “identity,” and his own immigrant struggle to belong.
- He traces identity from teenage popularity to career success and provider status, noting the cost to family relationships.
- He turns to his mother’s advice to ask Allah personal questions with an open heart.
- Using Surat al-A'raf, he explains Adam and Hawa’s dignity, Iblis’s arrogance, and humanity’s temptation to compare itself.
- He applies the lesson to consumer industries, AI, labels, war, and the loss of human dignity, contrasting Adam’s repentance with Satan’s refusal to seek forgiveness.
- As Ramadan approaches, he urges listeners to return to the Quran, love others unconditionally, and serve as examples of human dignity.
In the khateeb's words
“i know who i am i know who created me i know the position i'm in i know the elevated status He's provided me i don't need to be like anybody else”
“shaitan never went back to Allah and asked for forgiveness he doubled down he said no no no let me take these guys down with me”
“we are not each other's enemies but this sense that we have that i need to feel better i need to feel worthy i need to feel valued so i have to put somebody else down”
“let's go back to the quran ask the quran ask Allah these questions and then Allah will give us the answers”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah asks us to remember that our deepest identity is not our job, popularity, labels, or status, but the dignity Allah gave us as human beings. The speaker used the story of Adam and Hawa to show how Shaytan tempts people to forget their worth and compare themselves with others. When we make mistakes, we can follow Adam’s example by returning to Allah, asking forgiveness, and keeping our hearts open. As Ramadan comes, we are encouraged to bring personal questions to the Quran and receive its guidance. We should also show unconditional love and help others remember their own dignity.
- What is one thing that makes you feel valuable besides popularity or achievement?
- How can we help someone else feel respected and loved this week?
- What question would you like to ask Allah while reading the Quran?
