Love the Prophet by living his Sunnah
“Love and respect and honoring the legacy of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is to live the legacy of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam day in and day out.”
True love for Prophet Muhammad is shown by prioritizing Allah’s deen, living the Sunnah, and accepting sacrifice for the mission rather than merely celebrating his personality.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Distinguishes loving the Prophet’s mission from loving only his personality.
- Uses Umar, Zayd ibn Dathina, Abu Talha, and Hudaybiyyah to illustrate sacrificial love.
- Argues that honoring the Prophet requires honoring his deen and Sunnah.
- Uses a Quranic warning against preferring family, wealth, business, and homes over Allah and His Messenger.
- Calls listeners to embody the Sunnah, resist attachment to worldly life, and serve the deen.
- Concludes with prayers for Hafiz Yaqub, the ummah, and communities suffering across the world.
In the khateeb's words
“The objective of loving Rasulullah was never only to love the personality of Rasulullah but to love the personality of Rasulullah because of what it stands for, what it represents.”
“I swear by Allah, I don't wish that a thorn can prick Rasulullah where he's sitting in exchange for me being with my family.”
“Love and respect and honoring the legacy of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is to live the legacy of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam day in and day out, every single year”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that loving Prophet Muhammad means loving and following the way of life he taught. The khateeb shared stories of the companions whose actions showed how deeply they loved him. He encouraged us to honor the Prophet’s legacy every day through our speech, behavior, and choices. He also warned against letting our attachment to worldly life become greater than our love for Allah, His Messenger, and the next life. The gathering ended with prayers for healing, safety, relief from hardship, and hearts that love and revive the Sunnah.
- When is doing the right thing harder than doing what you feel like doing?
- Who could we remember in our du‘a tonight, following the prayers for healing and relief we heard?
