For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah taught us that good character, or akhlaaq, is central to pleasing Allah. Surah al-Hujurat calls us to respect Allah and His Messenger, bring people together when conflicts arise, and avoid mocking or ranking people by appearance, culture, language, or status. We should think positively about others, give them the benefit of the doubt, and stay away from spying, backbiting, and slander. Allah created humanity from the same parents and made our differences so we can know and appreciate one another; real honor comes through piety. This week, we can study Surah al-Hujurat, examine our habits, and take one step toward becoming kinder peacemakers.

  1. Where can we be peacemakers in our family or community this week?
  2. What is one difference in another person that we can learn to appreciate?
  3. Which habit, negative assumptions, spying, mockery, or backbiting, should we work on changing?
