Humility and kindness protect from Hell

“You shall be humble, modest till no one feels superior over one another and no one takes pride over another person.”

The khateeb, at 10:23

In one sentence

The path to Allah’s mercy and protection from Hell is to cultivate humility, gentleness, good speech, compassion, and fairness in daily relationships.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. The Prophet’s hadith promises protection from Hell for people who are gentle, easygoing, and close to others.
  2. Arrogance, harshness, stinginess, and superiority contradict these virtues and threaten spiritual well-being.
  3. Kindness appears through smiling, good words, forgiveness, greetings, feeding people, and welcoming those we know and do not know.
  4. Gentleness must govern buying, selling, seeking judgment, and respecting other people’s rights.
  5. Believers should make religion easy, offer glad tidings, show mercy to the young, respect elders, and honor scholars.
  6. The khutbah closes by urging humility, self-purification, and making Islam visible through personal conduct.

For the dinner table

The khutbah teaches that Allah’s mercy is promised to people who are gentle, humble, approachable, and easy with others. It warns against arrogance, harsh speech, stinginess, and demanding more for ourselves than we give others. We can live this message by smiling, greeting people, feeding others, speaking kindly, forgiving, showing mercy to young people, respecting elders and scholars, and being fair in our dealings. These everyday manners make Islam visible and beautiful.
