For the dinner table

Islamic worship is meant to shape the whole person, not just what we say we believe. The five pillars teach us to worship Allah while becoming more honest, patient, generous, gentle, and helpful. Prayer should make us punctual and ready to serve; charity includes smiles, sharing, teaching, planting, and volunteering; fasting should grow empathy and self-control. Hajj reminds us that people are equal, and that righteousness, not race or color, is what matters before Allah. This week, we can choose one small act of help and practice speaking kindly when we cannot give.

  1. What is one small act of kindness you could do this week without expecting anything back?
  2. How can fasting or waiting patiently help us understand someone who needs help?
  3. What does treating people equally look like at school, work, or in our community?
