For the dinner table

Today's khutbah reminded us to love and wish goodness for others just as we do for ourselves. That includes wanting our brothers and neighbors to receive blessings and to be safe from harm. The khateeb explained that this takes humility and work to clear our hearts of envy, bitterness, and selfishness. He told a story about a shopkeeper who regretted celebrating his own store's safety without thinking about others whose shops had burned. As a family, we can practice this teaching by being thankful for others' blessings, caring about their difficulties, and turning our faith into kind words and helpful actions.

  1. When someone else gets something you wanted, how could you show happiness for them?
  2. How could we help someone having a hard time while being thankful for what we have?
  3. What is one good thing you wish for someone else this week?
