For the dinner table

The khutbah reminded us that being Muslim is not only about private worship; it also means being a source of safety, kindness, and benefit to other people. The Prophet's teachings were used to praise people whose goodness others can hope for and whose harm they do not fear. We were encouraged to bring happiness, relieve hardship, control anger, help with needs, care for hungry neighbors, and avoid backbiting and fault-finding. The sermon gave the example of Uthman ibn Affan giving grain to Medina's poor instead of seeking profit. As Muharram begins, we were encouraged to fast on the ninth and tenth and increase good deeds.
