Why Muslims honor Jesus without worshipping him

“Every single prophet and messenger called towards Al-Islam.”

The khateeb, at 10:58

In one sentence

Islam honors Jesus and Maryam as exalted servants and prophets, rejects Jesus's divinity and crucifixion, and calls Muslims to worship Allah, affirm all prophets, accept individual accountability, and persevere in good character.

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that Muslims love and honor Isa, Jesus, as a great messenger of Allah, and honor his mother Maryam. The khateeb described Isa’s miraculous birth and the miracles Allah allowed him to perform, explaining that Isa was Allah’s servant and prophet. He taught that all the prophets shared the message of worshiping Allah. He also reminded us that each of us is responsible before Allah for our own deeds. We can carry these lessons into our week by taking responsibility for our choices and showing our faith through good words, helpful actions, and good character, even when that is difficult.

  1. What is one way you could bring a blessing into someone’s day tomorrow?
  2. When you make a mistake, what helps you take responsibility and try to make things right?
  3. How could you show good character when someone disagrees with you?
