Respond with patience when people hurt you
“If you know how to control your emotions, that is a sign of a strong person.”
In one sentence
Difficult people and unavoidable hardships are tests, and Muslims should respond by controlling emotions, seeking charitable understanding, answering harm with better conduct, setting wise boundaries, and relying on Allah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Frames people's ignorance and difficult relationships as a major recurring life trial, illustrated through the Prophet's hardships.
- Identifies hurtful tongues, betrayed trust, arrogant controllers, painful family members, and hostile strangers.
- Teaches emotional control: pause, stay calm, and avoid responding with ignorance.
- Recommends husn-e-dhun and perspective-taking before judging others' behavior.
- Calls for better responses, especially forgiveness, alongside boundaries around harmful people and social media.
- Ends with Tahajjud, dua, and Qur'anic and Sunnah supplications for strength and protection.

Pause and control your emotions when triggered; ask whether you control them or they control you.
Take a step back and consider what the other person may be experiencing; practice husn-e-dhun.
Respond better than the offense, forgive where possible, and do not confuse forgiveness with forgetting.
When someone repeatedly harms or triggers you, create boundaries and avoid unnecessary contact or provocative social-media exchanges.
When angry, change posture by sitting down, or lying down if already seated.
Reconnect spiritually through Tahajjud and sincere dua for courage, strength, and help.
