For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that one of Allah’s greatest blessings is iman, which gives Muslims a clear purpose: to worship Allah. It told the story of the Prophet Muhammad, who endured orphanhood, the deaths of loved ones, insults, and physical abuse while continuing to call people to Allah. At Ta’if, he was rejected and stoned, yet his supplication showed that Allah’s pleasure mattered more to him than comfort, and he refused to have the town destroyed. He hoped that Ta’if’s children would one day become Muslim, showing extraordinary mercy toward people who had harmed him. We can respond to hardship by thanking Allah, staying devoted, and keeping compassion and hope for others.
