Faith gives courage to face tyranny
“Your iman in your heart, it gets checked when you are tested with something.”
A life centered on Allah equips believers to confront fear and tyranny with faith, support, truth, and resistance to oppression, as Musa and Harun did before Pharaoh.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Taqwa and remembrance of Allah are presented as the source of true life and tranquility.
- Musa is commanded to return to Pharaoh, whose self-deification and oppression make him a tyrant.
- Musa responds to fear with a du'a for an open chest, ease, clear speech, and Harun as a helper.
- Allah recounts Musa’s life as deliberate preparation and sends Musa and Harun with two tasks: call Pharaoh to Allah and release Bani Israel.
- Pharaoh invokes his past favor, shifts the debate, attacks Musa’s character, and threatens imprisonment.
- Musa presents the staff miracle; Pharaoh frames it as magic and plans a contest with magicians.
In the khateeb's words
“Your iman in your heart, it gets checked when you are tested with something or when you're commanded with something.”
“The fact that you went into the basket in the River Nile was a plan. The fact that Firaun was going to raise you was a plan.”
“Send with us the children of Israel and stop torturing them.”
“when you lose a debate you character assassinate in order to discredit musa's claim to worshiping Allah and prophecy you have to discredit him”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah began with a reminder to keep Allah at the center of life through taqwa, prayer, Qur’an, dhikr, and good treatment of others. The story then followed Musa, who felt fear when Allah sent him to Pharaoh, but asked Allah for courage, ease, clear speech, and the help of his brother Harun. Allah reminded Musa that He had guided and shaped him through every stage of his life. Musa and Harun confronted Pharaoh with two linked messages: worship Allah alone and stop oppressing Bani Israel. The khutbah ended as Pharaoh answered with threats and the miracle of Musa’s staff set up the next part of the story.
- What can we do when we feel scared about something Allah asks us to do?
- How can we help our family remember Allah together?
- Why should we avoid judging someone by insults or rumors?
